Cobalt v117 Alpha change-log

Hi! Today we released v117 Alpha. It should update normally through the launcher. This includes a bunch of fixes to problems created by v116. The problem where the launcher crashes right away is known but we have not been able to fix it yet. In the meantime, please right click your cobalt shortcut, and in the “target” field, add:


then start the game again.

  • Survival House is updated
  • Brand new water movement
  • Desert Wind now gives x2 conversion for loot
  • Desert Wind: Added more harder tiers, and fixed some tiers that were reset and added weapons to some actors that had missing items.
  • Ai now understands that non-activated destructible tiles are potential paths.
  • Increased view edge cap buffer for ai-feedback


  • Fixed slugger bullets disabling rolls automatically
  • Fixed crash on sur safest gate
  • Fixed crash on sur desert wind related to relation behaviour
  • Fixed editor not working at all
  • Reduced stutter in preview generation
  • Thermal bomb is no longer upgradable
  • Fixed bug with placing tiles that were supposed to get a unique id on placement
  • Fixed some ai end of path jump bugs
  • Fixed radio not working
  • Added some opengl error handling so that we know what is wrong
  • Summoner booths have regained their old light glow that went missing for a while
  • A lot of shader related crashes fixed
  • Fixed certain effect doing a proposterous amount of canvas flipping
  • Water world is “working” again. There are likely a bunch of graphical horrifics, but its alive at least.
  • Fixed misaligned map previews
  • Fixed rendering of lots and lots of combos not making the combo list super tiny

    I am completely satisfied, not being able to access the level editor with these changes was nothing short of heartbreaking.

    Hello it is still the same, when i try to play any game mode, any map, the game crashes.Tried with -directx in shortcut without, opengl on/off, fullscreen on/off, lower resolutions.

    Can someone please explain to me step by step what to do with -directx and where to put it so the launcher can work?

    when i add directx to the target it just says that it is not valid

    The editor works, but most of the keyboard shortcuts not. I also still get crashes in some of the challenge maps.

    The good part is that I can atleast start the game now without it crashing and finishing maps works now too without a crash.

    Guys, to put the -directx, right click the cobalt shortcut, click properties, then you should see “cobalt-path\cobalt.exe”, after the last “, press space, and then insert the -directx, it cant be together with the last “, so, it should be “cobalt-path\cobalt.exe” -directx!

    When I play challenge mode maps sometimes they still crash in the middle of a game, and it still always crashes when I complete a challenge. Otherwise I love the update!

    WTF just happened with me!? i’ve pressed a button without the password field being selected, and i just got this lua error!?

    Oh god, more bugs lol, looks like the editor is a bit glitched for me, it was working fine before 1.1.7, now, to click in the buttons above the screen, i need to click a little bit lower than where they’re actually in, and my screen resolution is 1360×768, if needed, and i also cant move the camera down, just up and to the left!

    In my case, the gme randomly crashed 1 time while selecting a challenge in v117 and selecting the ‘obects’ tab in the editor T menu.

    I have the same cursor offset bug in the editor as Savio.
    I play with 1366×768 fullscreen.
    Please fix that.

    Oxeye, I have a problem :(

    I don’t appear to be having any opengl issues, but after updating to v116 or v117, the game keeps disappearing for no apparent reason. I haven’t
    managed to succesfully finish a game yet (with exceptions, stated below).

    This is a real shame, since I had some friends round and we spent hours playing 3 way deathmatches which was really fun (one of them has expressed interest in buying it, but uses a mac). I had to downgrade to v115 to use it though, which was absolutely fine for TDM, but I want to be able to use the newer versions :(

    I believe it is something in the game mechanics that causes this problem, possibly to do with the A.I. since the game didn’t crash on the snow levels, where there were no A.I. players. When I played Research Facility, as soon as I shot a mushroom guy, it crashed (three times). But in one of the snow levels, and TDM, I could kill the enemies, but it would crash sometime after a couple of points.

    I’ll post some more testing results later.

    P.S. I’m running:
    64-bit Windows 7, Opengl 3 (Nvidia GeForce210), Intel Xeon CPU E3-1220 V2 @ 3.10GHz, 8GB RAM

    Yeah I’m still getting the same problem.
    I can play against a single bot on Space Zone for about 2 minutes and then ‘Cobalt.exe has stopped working’
    This is after uninstalling and deleting everything to do with cobalt and reinstalling it by directly downloading the v117 client. My friend isn’t having the same problem though on his laptop though…

    My favorite map in this game (or at least in DM) have been “Rooftops”. So here I am, wanting to play a game of Cobalt, with a slightly retarded friend, and what do find? No fucking Rooftops map…

    Still crashes on safest gate, through the door on the right side of the map and continue left through a second door until a motion detector comes on screen. I think it’s the same errors as before, but here’s a link to the screenshot in case it isn’t: I have tried this in windowed and fullscreen, opengl and directX. Computer has Windows 7 x64, AMD processor and ATI graphics card. Let me know if I can answer any questions about what I’ve been doing to get this error. Challenge mode didn’t crash for me, but after playing for a while when a level would be restarted the game would lag pretty horribly for a few seconds, and then it would be alright. Otherwise, great update! Haven’t found any other problems.
