This week in Cobalt #4

December 28th, 2014, Cobalt, Game Development, Previews, This Week

Happy holidays!

How’s visiting family (or whatever else you do!) going? In my case, it’s keeping me quite busy!
However, I had enough spare time to check the Oxeye blog during the 25th!
What’s so important about that, you ask? Well, our dear community member Librus wrote a very interesting blogpost to celebrate such day and holidays!
Go read if you haven’t already! The link is here.

“Spartans”?

spartanCobalt says he has no idea what you’re talking about.

Cobalt might not be an ancient fighter about whom legends are written (yet), but every metalface who thinks of himself or herself as a decent fighter must be skilled in the use of sharp objects!
That’s where spears -and other stuff!- come in.

arsenalPointy! Sharp!

In the new update a bunch of new melee weapons and equipment is going to be included. Isn’t that awesome? I feel like dueling someone every time I see the new swords. Wait, did someone say dueling?

Check that out! I won! Now who wants to duel with me?
Aw, seems like we’ll have to wait a little longer.

That’s all for this year!

And again the year comes to an end. Happy new year everyone!
I hope you enjoyed these small blog posts I’ve been doing until now. Hopefully now you want the next version even more!

Next week there won’t be a blog post, probably. The week after that… we’ll see!

  1. PacBruno :

If all melee weapons ia a oneshot, They are no different than phasers, it would be nice if the weapons colide when two players attack at the same time

  2. Bobsta15 :

lol this looks awesome, cant wait to duel my friends!

  3. Freelot :

    Great!!

  4. Random409 :

Awesome! Couldn’t anticipate new weapons like these. Also very nice small map. Will that map be added for the next patch?

  5. [MT] :

    I was right!
    Spartans!
    :D

  6. janeator :

Happy to see that you guys like it :)

Random409: The maps are custom-made by me for this blogposts. Besides, it’s a completely bad map ^^ no design whatsoever.
But! I will probably put all the maps I used in the blog posts up for download once the next release is out.

PacBruno: Melee weapons don’t instakill, but are very strong. Also, phasers aren’t 100% oneshot either! There’s different damage values it seems, but most times it is indeed an instakill.
Aside from that, fully upgraded phasers allow for very neat jumps, so they still wouldn’t be the same. Plus, adds for visual themes and settings!
IIRC every melee weapon has slightly different swing and cooldown time, as well as different damage and hitbox.

  8. Random409 :

That’s great Janeator. Would definitely try that map with my friends. A nice little stage for a duel.

If you want something similar and better in my opinion, try my map Duel for v124i :)
It was made for the 50-block-only contest/jam, but I’ll update it to look better (if possible) at some point:

  10. Slmrojo :

Will there ever be open beta/alpha?

  11. janeator :

Right now we’re in Alpha, and it’s already “open”. You can purchase the alpha at playcobalt.com

If by “open” you mean “free”, I doubt so.

  12. Slmrojo :

Sorry what i actually meant to ask was if there would ever be open dev builds

  13. janeator :

By that you mean the pre-release of alphas? No.

  14. boyikr :

Once this update comes out and online multiplayer…. so many people are going to rage at me :-)

Hello! Quick question that’s totally off topic. Do you know how to make your site mobile friendly? My weblog looks weird when browsing from my iphone4. I’m trying to find a template or plugin that might be able to fix this problem. If you have any suggestions, please share. Appreciate it!
